Training for 160 drone pilots starts in Mexico

MEXICO —  Colegio de Educación Profesional Técnica (Conalep) announced the new technical career of Drones Pilotage, which will train professionals in the management of remotely piloted aircraft for the development of activities such as agro-industry, construction, mining, health services and rescue, among others.

"The purpose is for the children to learn to interpret the results that the drone gives and then give the entrepreneur the needs detected, depending on the area in which they are working," explained Guadalupe Ruiz, in charge of strategic projects of Conalep Sinaloa.

Ruiz mentioned that this new educational offer is in the process of approval by Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC) and that, once approved, the first generation will begin courses in August of this year, with a total of 40 students per campus that will graduate as technical professionals at the bachelor level.

He announced that Conalep will hold a meeting with the DGAC, in order to go forward with the certification of the campuses as well as with the training centers for pilots. Rodrigo Soto Morales, lawyer and expert in aeronautical law and unmanned aircraft, considered that this launch is an adequate implementation by Conalep, although he recalled that it is imperative to comply with the rules that regulate drones.

"At a technical level, it's very good, we need these careers because there is a lot of specialized industry, both in infrastructure and transportation, that without the right personnel, it would not work," said Soto Morales. The career will be implemented in 4 state campuses: Los Mochis II (northern zone), Guasave (northern central zone), José Antonio Padilla Culiacán II (central zone) and Mazatlán I (southern zone) starting in August 2019.
