IATA asks federal government to present an infrastructure plan

MEXICO  — Asociación de Transporte Aéreo Internacional (IATA) urged the federal government to announce to airlines the airport infrastructure plan proposed for Valle de Mexico.

"Airlines urgently need to know what infrastructure they will have available," said Alexandre De Juniac, the association's general director. The official explained that the decision to abandon the construction of the New International Airport of Mexico(NAIM) in Texcoco makes things difficult for airlines, but noted that there is willingness to collaborate with the government to optimize the best way the aerial capacity.

The main concern of the airlines is that the coordination of the three airports is able to generate efficient connections. "To make the Metropolitan Airports System work will be a challenge. The AICM is saturated, the connections of Toluca, being 70 kilometers from the city will be almost impossible and converting the military air base of Santa Lucía to a commercial airport will be very difficult, "said De Juniac.

However, IATA called for the infrastructure proposed by Mexico to guarantee safe operations and the necessary steps to be taken so that the Mexican skies reach their full capacity.
