MEXICO – Hutchison Ports Timsa made an investment of over US$20 million to purchase 200 rotatable containers and two revolver-type spreaders, which are designed to transport and handle mineral bulk.

With this acquisition, Hutchison Ports Timsa will have a total of 340 special containers and four revolvers in the port of Manzanillo, with the objective of increasing the productivity of its operations for the benefit of its customers and port users.

According to a company’s statement, this technology is a viable alternative to traditional belt systems, as it increases the productivity of operations in the handling of mineral bulk cargo, since it reduces the time of the ships’ stay to optimize the resources of all the parties involved, thus managing to operate simultaneously up to three mineral bulk vessels.

Special containers have the capacity to transport up to 36 tons and handle products with a density range of up to 9.1 tons/m3, which translates into the possibility of operating all types of copper, zinc, lead, and iron concentrates, as well as iron ore in pellet and in the forest, among others.

The equipment, emphasized Hutchison Ports, has a hermetic cover that allows to transport mineral bulk. In the same way, the spreader system has a special attachment to rotate the container 360 degrees.

This system is friendly to the environment, since it eliminate dust emissions on the docks during operations and avoids contamination during transportation from the warehouse site to the port.
