Peñafiel could receive a fine for US$21,000

MEXICO —Peñafiel could be liable to a fine worth US$21,000 in case of failure to comply with the information requested by Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco), with the intention of continuing the investigation on the alleged presence of high levels of arsenic in said mineral water product.

"Peñafiel has not answered the official questionnaires that were notified and has until today (Monday) to do so," said the head of the Profeco, Ricardo Sheffield Padilla.

Sheffield Padilla stated that until now no formal response has been received from Keurig Dr Pepper, the company installed in Mexico that produces the bottled water from Peñafiel; this after last Tuesday was reported a request to the company in order to obtain more information and compare it with the Consumer Reports study, which revealed that said drink contains high arsenic levels that are more harmful compared to the tap water.
