Mexico and Germany will reactivate Binational Comission

MEXICO CITY — After a meeting held between the minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Heiko Mass, and the Mexican foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, both countries agreed to reactivate the "Binational Commission", whose function will be to analyze different cooperation and investment projects.

The minister of Foreign Relations of Mexico, stated that the country's relationship with Germany turns out to be of great importance since both nations wish to carry out different investments; currently, there are more than 2,000 German companies in Mexico worth around US$35 billion

During said meeting, different topics were addressed: the strengthening of multilateralism, the fight against corruption and impunity, the rule of law, protection of human rights, promotion of social welfare and inclusion, protection of the environment and the fight against climate change, as well as the boost of innovation, digitalization, science and technology.

"There is a will to expand cooperation to generate better results. There are many sectors in which we can deepen such as energy, technology, dual training, culture, human rights, among others. German investments in Mexico are very important and we will surely have new projects and joint actions for our economy, "said Ebrard.

For his part, the German official, expressed the desire of his country to deepen its relationship with Mexico in the economic-commercial field as well as in promoting democratic values and celebrated  the actions undertaken by the AMLO government in favor to protect human rights, as it was the creation of  "Comisión de la Verdad" in the Ayotzinapa case.

"This visit has shown that we want to join efforts in such important values as the Rule of Law, the fight against impunity, the struggle for democracy, and international collaboration," Heiko Mass said.
