Mexican ports’ fluctuation increases 10%

MEXICO   At the end of the January-April 2019 period, the Mexican ports accumulated the movement of 2,300,088 20 ft containers (TEU), which represent an advance of 10% compared to the same period of 2018, when 2,091,690 TEU were operated, the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) revealed.

 

The figures of the dependency show that the movement of empty containers was of 685,106 in the first quarter of 2019, meaning an increase of 20.5% (116 ,973 more) in comparison with the same period of 2018, when there were registered 568 ,133 containers.

 

Of the total displaced in said period, the participation of the gaps was 29.7%; while, in the same cycle of 2018, the participation of empty spaces was 27.1%.

 

On the other hand, the SCT explained that the movement of full containers amounted to 1,612,757 units, an increase of 5.9% (90,262 more) than in the same period last year, when they reached 1,522,494.

 

From the total of January to April of this year the full TEU corresponded to 70.1%; while in the same period of the previous year the participation of full containers was 72.7%.

 

By coast, for this first four-month period of 2019, in the Pacific 1,544,321 TEU were operated, with an increase of 9.6% against 1,408,577 previous ones; while in the Gulf of Mexico, 755,767 TEUs were reached, which represent 10.6% more according to 683,131 units operated from January to April 2018,
