SAN LUIS POTOSI San Luis Potosí could house the first aluminum conversion plant to manufacture sheets for canned drinks and car sheets.

It is estimated that the investment will be of US$1.5 billion and that 800 to 1,200 direct jobs could be generated.

The president of the Mexican Aluminum Institute (IMEDAL), Fernando García, indicated that as far as progress has been made, the project has shown to have all the possibilities to be consolidated; however, he stressed, "it is still a project", although it is expected that in the coming months it will be progressing favorably so we can make it officially public.

"it is a very important amount of investment that would be located in a large land and until today, the project has demonstrated that there is viability in all aspects," he said.

The executive stressed that this could be the first step to boost the growth of the aluminum industry in Mexico, since this is a "greenfield" project, meaning it will start from scratch.

In addition, he stated that for reasons of confidentiality, it is not possible to mention the companies that would be participating, but there are already several interested investors, both from Mexico and the United States, who want to be part of this project.
