CHIHUAHUA – A series of foreign investments totaling US$438 million will come to Chihuahua, mainly to Ciudad Juarez, during 2019, according to figures from the Foreign Investment Directorate of the Ministry of Economy.

Fabián Santana, director of Promotora de la Industria Chihuahuense of the Ministry of Innovation and Economic Development, explained that said investment is divided into 14 operations, of which 12 are new and 2 of them correspond to organic expansions of already established companies in the energy and automotive sector.

Within these new investments, are also those that are focused on different sectors such as auto parts, electronics, machining and logistics.

"In total, we believe that these investments will generate more than 4,000 jobs in Chihuahua and will occupy 4 million square feet," he added. For him, this number of investments beat the records, since more than 70 investments of this type have been generated from October 2016 to date, 34 of them were made during 2018.

Chihuahua remains among the first five states nationwide that receive the largest amount of foreign investment quarter by quarter. "We expect this trend to continue upward," Santana said.

For the executive, these numbers are positive, if contrasted with the four maquiladoras that have left Ciudad Juarez in the last quarter of 2018. "In total, this year we will have almost 50 new operations," he said.

Finally, he stressed that the new operations involve advanced manufacturing sectors, which will generate better salaries for the workers.
