CFE to invest US$250 million in Yucatan

YUCATAN The government of Yucatan and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced the construction of a new electric power plant with an investment of US$250 million, whose construction would become operational until mid-2021.

During the announcement, Governor Mauricio Vila informed that the project will offer enough supply of electricity and natural gas to the entity. The plant will operate under the name Mérida IV; it will be a Combined Cycle (CCC) since it will be able to run on natural gas and diesel and the first stage will start operating during the summer of 2021 with an installed capacity of 500 megawatts (MW).

The project considers an extension of its capacity to an additional 1,000 MW within a period of three years, guaranteeing the service to all the inhabitants of Yucatán.

The CFE’s new plant construction, will increase the supply currently offered by the Mérida 3 and Valladolid plants, and by the External Energy Producers (PEE).
