Mexican airports’ cargo goes upward

MEXICO — The January-May 2019 period meant growth for the cargo volumes that are handled in the main airports of the country compared to what was reported in the same period of 2018, according to monthly figures from the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT).

The site that reported the greatest increase was the Querétaro Intercontinental Airport (AIQ), adding 22,700,000 tons, which resulted in a 132% difference from the 9, 800,000 tons of the previous year.

Tijuana followed with an increase of 114%, contrasting 12, 400,000 tons accumulated in the first five months of the current year, compared to 5, 800,000 tons in the same period of the previous year.

Hermosillo, on the other hand, reported an increase of 91% comparing 4,200,000 tons with the 2, 200,000 tons accumulated during the same period of the previous year.

The airport of Mérida added 9, 200,000 tons, a difference of 88% in proportion to the 4, 900,000 tons accumulated on 2018, according to figures from the SCT.

Monterrey, meanwhile, reported a growth of 76% comparing the 22,400,000 tons of the current year with the 12,700,000 tons of the previous year.
