STATE OF MEXICO — The federal government needs to carry out a safety master plan for the proper functioning of the new Metropolitan Airport System (SAM), composed of the terminals of Mexico City (AICM), Toluca (AIT) and Saint Lucia (AISL), stated Mikel Santos, airport cybersecurity expert at PA Consulting Group.

Due to the increase in digitalization in airport processes, it has become important for airports to strengthen their defenses against possible cyber-attacks that can range from the theft of personal data to more critical situations (which, fortunately, so far have not happened) such  as threats to aircraft safety, said the expert.

The consulting firm PA Consulting Group approached the new government and outlined a series of general keys that aim to help manage airport cybersecurity; among them is the need for adequate leadership and strong governance as well as safely designed airports.
