93% of Mexicans are satisfied with driving electric cars

93% of electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) users in Mexico are “very satisfied” or “completely satisfied” with their driving experience, and 86% would buy another vehicle of the same type, according to the results of the First National EMA Survey for Electric Vehicle Users.
The study, sponsored by the Electro Mobility Association (EMA), which brings together the country's main players in electric mobility, indicates that most users in the sample purchased an electric vehicle because of its contribution to improving the environment and motivated by technological innovation.
Other reasons that also contributed to choosing an electric car were savings in consumption (compared to gasoline-powered vehicles) and the economic incentives they receive, such as exemption from vehicle ownership tax and vehicle inspection, EMA revealed.
Eighty-nine percent of the 1,232 respondents who answered online purchased their vehicle between last year and the first four months of 2025, showing the acceleration of recent demand.
The survey, which was conducted between March 1 and April 7, mainly reflects the experience of users of brands such as Volvo, BYD, Tesla, SEV, ZEEKR, JAC, and Changan, all of which are members of the EMA.
According to the Electromobility Barometer presented by EMA last April, the adoption of EVs and PHEVs in Mexico rebounded 290% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the figures for the same period in 2024.
Perception studies such as the one now presented by EMA are common exercises in markets where electromobility is gaining relevance and allow for an understanding of the local experience of users who provide feedback to the brands offering these technologies and charging operators.
It also allows for the measurement of progress and areas of opportunity to prioritize projects.
Eugenio Grandio, president of the Association, said that the survey results validate the direction that consumers and the automotive industry want to take with regard to reducing polluting emissions caused by transportation.
“It is clear that brands and users are committed to helping reduce CO2 emissions in our cities,” said the executive.
Eighty-seven percent of respondents believe that planning a long trip in an EV or PHEV requires more preparation than doing so in a gasoline-powered vehicle, 81% responded that they are concerned about the charging process when traveling, and 57% said they have experienced anxiety about the range of their electric vehicle.
The survey reflects how this growing demand for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles has also opened up an area of opportunity to mitigate users' concerns about range and the availability of fast charging solutions, a challenge addressed by EMA member brands, such as the stations recently opened by FAZT, VEMO, Evergo, and XC Power by QiOn.
With regard to battery charging habits, the study confirms a dominant preference among users for overnight charging at home, a practice that is establishing itself as one of the most convenient.
Sixty-three percent indicated that they charge their vehicle at home and that they mainly connect it at night (65%) to a wallbox (70%). Of these, 41.1% have opted to take advantage of the separate meter.
As for the distance traveled in the city, 39% responded that they travel between 25 and 50 kilometers per day, 34% between 0 and 25 kilometers, and 15% between 50 and 75 kilometers per day.
On highway trips, almost 40% of users usually drive between 100 and 250 kilometers, and 17% travel less than 100 kilometers. These trends are being addressed thanks to the arrival on the Mexican market of electric vehicles that offer ranges of between 400 and 600 kilometers.
In this regard, half of those surveyed indicated that priority should be given to charging infrastructure on highways, especially those connecting cities such as Querétaro, Guadalajara, Acapulco, and Cuernavaca, among others.
