Sonora is a benchmark in the aerospace industry

SONORA - Sonora's aerospace industry has consolidated its position as one of the most attractive sectors for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Mexico.

During the last 18 years, this sector has attracted more than US$3.6 billion in investments nationwide, of which more than 8 percent have come to Sonora, positioning the state as the seventh with the highest attraction in the country.

According to data from the Global Economic Intelligence Unit of the Ministry of Economy, between 2006 and 2023, FDI in the Mexican aerospace sector amounted to US$3.6 billion. Of this figure, Sonora has received US$293.2 million, which represents 8.1 percent of the national total.

In 2023, investments in Sonora for the manufacture of aerospace equipment reached US$14.3 million, which reflects the continued growth and dynamism of the sector in the state.

Sonora's prominent position in the national aerospace industry is due to several factors, including its strategic location near the U.S. border, its skilled labor force, its modern infrastructure and its favorable investment environment.

The growth of the aerospace sector in Sonora represents a great opportunity for the economic and social development of the state, generating high quality jobs and attracting new investments. It is expected that in the coming years, the state will continue to consolidate itself as a reference in the aerospace industry at a national and international level.

The six entities that have registered the largest investments in this industry are Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Zacatecas, Nuevo Leon and Queretaro, which have received more than US$3.6 billion.

It is worth mentioning that FDI directed to the aerospace sector represents 0.7 percent of total FDI in Mexico, and has come from 136 companies from three countries: the United States, Spain and France.

The three main companies that have invested in the Mexican aerospace industry, according to the federal agency, are Honeywell, from the United States, Safran, from France and Aernnova, from Spain.
