MONTERREY, NL - Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA) inaugurated the new East Ambulatory at Terminal A of the Monterrey International Airport, which will serve close to 16 million passengers a year and will offer a new travel experience with more streamlined documentation.
OMA's CEO, Ricardo Dueñas, accompanied by Governor Samuel García and the Secretary of Tourism, Maricarmen Guerra, among other officials, cut the ribbon to open the space, which will begin regular operations in June.
This is Phase I of Modernization, which includes the construction of 6,253 square meters and 35 double documentation counters, as well as commercial premises, airport services, medical services, checked baggage control and restroom facilities.
Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concesiones, stated that this project concludes the first phase of an ambitious expansion project that opens the door to nearshoring in Nuevo León.
"This opening comes at the right time to boost the relocation of international investments, nearshoring, improving the international Business and Tourism vehicle, is the first major step of a very ambitious investment program underway," he said.
Governor Samuel García said that the modernization of the airport infrastructure in the region consolidates Nuevo León as an important HUB for national and international connectivity.
"It is an airport that consolidates into a HUB. Today we are undoubtedly the regional HUB of northern Mexico and southern Texas. Today we have direct flights to Madrid, to Korea, to Colombia, to Panama," said García.
Phase 2 of the project, to be executed in the coming months, will include the construction of a new inspection point, the expansion of the domestic baggage claim hall and the creation of new seating areas and boarding gates.
