Volvo announces investment of US$700 million in Nuevo Leon

NUEVO LEON - The Swedish vehicle assembler Volvo has chosen Ciénega de Flores, Nuevo León, as the site for its new North American heavy truck factory, with an estimated investment of US$700 million.

"Volvo is coming to build its largest factory in the world here in Nuevo León. We are very happy, it is going to be one of the largest investments of this six-year term,” said the governor.

The new plant, which will cover approximately 160,000 square meters, will focus on the production of conventional heavy-duty vehicles for the Volvo and Mack brands. Production will include complete assembly and painting of the trucks, ensuring that the vehicles leave the facility fully finished.

Construction of the plant is expected to begin shortly, with operations expected to start in 2026. Once operational, the plant will supply Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks businesses in the United States and Canada, as well as Mack Trucks in Mexico and Latin America.

In addition to strengthening Volvo's presence in the North American market, this project will bring with it the creation of approximately 2,500 direct jobs for the state, boosting economic and labor development in Nuevo Leon.

Volvo's arrival comes at a key moment for the state, which has sought to position itself as an automotive hub in Mexico. With this investment, it is expected that Nuevo León will continue to consolidate its position as a national and international benchmark in the automotive industry.
