Volvo to increase investment in Mexico

Volvo, the Swedish-based manufacturer of high-end automobiles, will increase its planned investment in Ciénega de Flores, Nuevo León from US$700 million to US$1 billion, Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Economy announced.
In a brief message through his X account, the official said that the plant that will make cargo trucks will begin operations in 2026.
“I am informed from Volvo's global headquarters in Sweden that they have decided to increase the scheduled investment in Ciénega de Flores ,Nuevo León. The plant that will make cargo trucks will start operation in 2026 . Good news,” he said on the social network.
The announcement, which remains to be confirmed by the company, comes a day after the United States announced a series of reciprocal tariffs for dozens of countries, excluding Mexico and Canada thanks to the trade agreement it has with them.
The plant is located in an area of 94 hectares and a Pocket Park of 26 hectares will be built in front of it, where suppliers of the Swedish assembler could be installed.
To give an idea of the magnitude of the construction, there are 200,000 square meters of construction, equivalent to 40 soccer fields. In addition, 14 tons of metal structure will be used. The first stone of the plant was laid in October last year.
