KIA Mexico Begins European Exports from Its Nuevo León Plant

KIA Mexico has officially launched the export of vehicles manufactured at its Pesquería plant to European markets. The inaugural shipment of the European-spec K4 Hatchback, the first "Made in Nuevo León" model destined for the continent, marks a significant milestone for the automaker's global operations.

The ceremony was attended by Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda, KIA Mexico President Sam Young Kim, and the state's Secretary of Economy, Betsabé Rocha Nieto. Governor García witnessed the first unit manufactured for export, which is scheduled for shipment to the United Kingdom. Future shipments are planned for key markets including Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, and, in a subsequent phase, the United States.

According to the company, the Pesquería plant is equipped to produce vehicles meeting high international quality standards and currently employs more than 2,500 people. As part of a significant expansion plan, KIA Mexico announced an additional investment of $150 million in the state, which is expected to generate approximately 600 new jobs.

Sam Young Kim, President of KIA Mexico, emphasized the successful collaboration with local authorities in facilitating the production and export processes. “European customers will begin receiving our units with high standards of quality and reliability, in keeping with KIA's values,” he stated.

The plant's manufacturing excellence has been recognized with the prestigious JD Power award, ranking it above other global vehicle manufacturers. KIA Mexico's export activities are a key contributor to Nuevo León's automotive sector, which accounts for more than 30% of the state's total exports.

The event also featured the participation of numerous local and federal authorities, including Senator Luis Donaldo Colosio; Pesquería Mayor Francisco Esquivel Garza; federal representative Petra Romero; state representatives Baltazar Martínez and Mario Salinas; and the Undersecretary of Economic Development and Innovation, Carlos Serna.

This export launch solidifies KIA Mexico's entry into the European market with products entirely manufactured in Nuevo León, significantly bolstering the plant's international profile.
