GAC Expands in Mexico with Electric Vehicles and Fast-Charging Network

Chinese automaker GAC International announced an expansion strategy in Mexico focused on growing its electric vehicle lineup and developing a fast-charging infrastructure to strengthen its position in the country’s electromobility market.

As part of this plan, the company introduced the AION UT, a fully electric urban vehicle aimed at both private customers and fleet operators, including ride-hailing and corporate mobility services. The model offers an estimated driving range of around 420 kilometers and is designed for daily city use, making it suitable for high-frequency urban operations.

Beyond vehicle sales, GAC is advancing partnerships with dealers and specialized energy companies to deploy fast-charging stations across key metropolitan areas. These charging points are expected to deliver significant battery replenishment in roughly 20 minutes, helping reduce range anxiety and improving the practicality of electric mobility.

On the commercial side, the brand plans to expand its dealership network from just over 30 locations to approximately 45 in the near term, increasing nationwide coverage and strengthening after-sales service capabilities.

The company also stated that additional costs related to import duties will not be passed on to customers, as part of a strategy to keep pricing competitive in a market where several global brands are competing for electric vehicle adoption.

Looking ahead, GAC expects steady growth over the next two years, driven by rising demand for electric transportation, broader charging infrastructure, and a more robust retail network. The company aims to build an integrated ecosystem that combines vehicles, charging solutions, and customer services, positioning itself as a key player in Mexico’s transition toward cleaner mobility.
