Process electrification to improve industrial sustainability: Volkswagen Mexico

Volkswagen is committed to strengthening its industrial sustainability strategy through process electrification, the extensive use of renewable energy, and the continuous improvement of its environmental and energy performance.
The plan also incorporates circular economy approaches to reduce waste, increase recycling, and maximize the reuse of resources. “Industrial sustainability is a direct enabler of competitiveness: it drives efficiency, reduces risks, and strengthens our ability to adapt,” said Holger Nestler, President and CEO of Volkswagen Mexico.
To ensure this strategy succeeds, the automaker uses the electrification of its processes as a cornerstone. In Puebla, the Volkswagen plant operates a 100% electric paint shop that uses natural gas and integrates high-efficiency technologies that significantly reduce the process’s climate impact.
“We are making progress in process electrification, the use of renewable energy, and the continuous improvement of our environmental management, with a clear path toward increasingly low-carbon production,” added Nestler.
With an eye on the future, the company aims to achieve carbon-neutral production at its plants in Puebla and Guanajuato by 2040, as part of the group’s global climate ambition and to drive the development of renewable energy infrastructure in Mexico.
