Women break barriers in Querétaro’s aerospace and automotive industries

Women in Querétaro are increasingly taking on roles traditionally dominated by men in the aerospace and automotive sectors, as a state-backed training model opens new opportunities in high-demand industrial jobs.

Through a program led by the state’s labor authorities, women are being trained directly within companies, with a key condition: those who complete the training are guaranteed employment. This approach has accelerated their integration into some of the region’s most dynamic industries.

Participants are entering technical and operational roles such as welding, forklift operation, and industrial production, areas that historically had limited female participation. The initiative also extends beyond these sectors, preparing women for jobs like carpentry, plumbing, and public transport operation.

Officials highlighted that the program has proven beneficial for both workers and companies. Employers, in particular, have begun to shift long-standing hiring biases, recognizing that performance and precision—not gender—are what truly matter in manufacturing environments.

This shift is especially relevant in Querétaro, a key hub for aerospace and automotive manufacturing, where demand for skilled labor continues to grow alongside ongoing investment and industrial expansion.

The initiative reflects a broader transformation in Mexico’s industrial workforce, where companies are gradually redefining traditional roles and opening pathways for women in technical and specialized occupations.
