Sheinbaum seeks new tariffs with the US regarding the automotive and metallurgy sectors

Speaking at the 82nd Annual Assembly of the Nuevo Leon Chamber of the Processing Industry (CAINTRA), President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the Mexican government remains hopeful that tariffs on auto parts, aluminum, and steel can be renegotiated with the United States following the establishment of a new working group.
She also added that “we are making good progress on the trade agreement… but there is something very important: there is now a formal working group to review the agreement, and that gives us a great deal of certainty.”
She stated that the US government has a positive attitude, and that she believes and hopes that, given the general international situation—and the fact that the US will hold its elections this year—the outlook looks good for Mexico and the future of the trade agreement.
At this meeting, Sheinbaum noted that her government is working jointly with CAINTRA and Samuel Garcia’s administration on the air quality program for the Monterrey metropolitan area.
“In about two weeks, I have a meeting with the UNAM Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change and the academics working there; they already have an inventory of air quality missions and measurements to present very soon…”
She also highlighted that the Mexican government is supporting the construction of lines 4 and 6 of the Monterrey metro, setting aside US$28 million for this project.
