Fuel prices in Mexico have reached nearly US$2 per liter

In Mexico City, fuel prices continue to rise, reaching US$1.61 per liter for diesel and between US$1.57 and US$1.69 per liter for Premium—also known as “red”—while regular gasoline, or “Magna,” remains at US$1.35 per liter at most gas stations.

Motorists and delivery drivers believe that the increase in diesel and Premium prices will have a “domino effect” on other services and food costs, particularly fruits, vegetables, and meat products. “When gas prices go up, everything goes up,” said Citlali, a local delivery driver.

Attendants at PEMEX gas stations on Tlalpan Avenue noted that the price increase for diesel and Premium has been in effect for between three days and a week and a half, while at the BP station on Felix Cueva, at the corner of Adolfo Prieto, in the Del Valle neighborhood, the price is US$1.65.

Most attendants are unaware of the real reason behind the price increase, but one of them indicated that it is “a consequence of the war in the Middle East.”
