Nuevo Leon aims to reduce logistics costs

Nuevo Leon presented a new logistics model for the cross-border movement of goods to US authorities, called the “Smart Automated Logistics Route,” which aims to eliminate the transfer system at the Colombia-Laredo Bridge and allow for direct transit of carriers between the two countries.

This proposal was presented in Washington, D.C., to the Department of State and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), as part of a strategy to streamline international trade processes.

Currently, border crossings operate under a transfer system, in which carriers must hand over cargo to intermediaries to cross from one country to another, which generates additional costs, duplicate paperwork, and longer wait times.

The proposed model aims to eliminate this system by allowing carriers themselves to cross the border, deliver, and pick up goods without the need for intermediaries, with the support of an International Cargo Exchange Yard that would be established within the customs zone in Colombia-Laredo.

If implemented, the Colombia–Laredo Bridge would be the first to implement this system on the US-Mexico border, with the goal of reducing logistics costs and streamlining trade flows.
