World Cup expected to bring economic benefits

The National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism of Mexico City estimated an economic impact of US$1.518 billion from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, during which 1,168,000 tourists are expected to visit the capital, as well as the potential creation of 70,000 to 90,000 jobs.
The business organization estimated that the average spending per tourist will be US$1,300, which points to “a season of high economic activity for sectors linked to tourism and consumption.”
CANACO President Vicente Gutierrez Camposeco stated that the World Cup could mark a turning point for Mexico City’s economy, noting that the discussion is not limited to soccer; rather, it encompasses investment, tourism, consumption, employment, and historic opportunities to demonstrate that the capital is ready to compete and grow in the eyes of the world.
“They won’t just come to watch a game; they’ll come to experience the city. And that’s the great opportunity for our businesses, our services, and our products. We want the world to see that Mexico City has quality, talent, and the capacity to share,” said Gutierrez.
