Jalisco Secures Energy Supply for Historic Tech Investment

The state of Jalisco has confirmed it has sufficient energy capacity to support a historic US$1 billion investment by Flex, focused on the development of data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
State authorities indicated that the project will significantly increase electricity demand, potentially requiring up to seven times the energy consumed by the Port of Manzanillo during its operation.
Officials from the state’s energy sector emphasized that there is coordination with federal entities such as Secretaría de Energía and Comisión Federal de Electricidad to ensure a reliable power supply and address the technical challenges associated with this type of infrastructure.
The state government highlighted its ongoing communication with the company, describing the project as strategic due to its impact on employment and the regional industrial chain. Authorities are also working to expand energy capacity to meet future operational needs, including additional megawatt requirements for expansion.
As part of its long-term planning, Jalisco estimates it will need more than 3,400 additional megawatts by 2030 to sustain industrial growth and attract new technology investments.
Officials also ruled out the risk of blackouts in the state, despite the expected increase in electricity demand, and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining favorable conditions for high-value technological projects.
