Only 31.2% of gas stations stick to the agreed price

Shortly after president Claudia Sheinbaum reached an agreement with gas station operators to sell diesel at US$1.56, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) reported that only 31.2% of stations were selling at the agreed-upon price.
In releasing a report on diesel price trends, Attorney General Ivan Escalante said that 10.3% are selling slightly above US$1.56, although he noted that the overall average price is US$1.61.
In a brief report on compliance with the agreement—which is part of policies to reduce inflationary pressures—Escalante noted that 58.5% of gas stations are selling above US$1.62.
On the other hand, the attorney general mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is continuing negotiations with sixty wholesale markets across the country to try to lower and stabilize the price of tomatoes, one of the products in its basket that exerts the greatest pressure on inflation.
