Semiconductors Gain Ground in Juárez

Ciudad Juárez is experiencing a major industrial shift as semiconductor manufacturing and server production continue gaining momentum over the region’s traditional aerospace and automotive sectors. Taiwanese investment in the city has reached nearly $3 billion over the last four years, generating more than 25,000 jobs and positioning Juárez as a strategic hub for advanced manufacturing in Mexico.

State officials said the slowdown in the automotive industry, particularly in electric vehicle production and plant operations, has impacted employment in northern Mexico. However, growth in semiconductor-related operations has helped offset some of those losses through new investments focused on data centers, servers, and computing equipment.

Industry leaders highlighted that Ciudad Juárez has become one of Mexico’s main centers for server assembly and electronics exports to the United States. The expansion has also attracted new Asian companies and accelerated demand for engineers, technicians, and specialized talent linked to microchip manufacturing and high-value technology production.

Experts believe the semiconductor boom could reshape the region’s industrial future by strengthening nearshoring opportunities and diversifying Chihuahua’s manufacturing base beyond aerospace and automotive production.
