SEMAR assumes presidency of the CIP for 2026–2029

The Mexican Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) assumed the presidency of the Executive Committee of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) for the 2026–2029 term, after being elected during the CIP’s 14th Regular Meeting held in Bridgetown, Barbados.
According to SEMAR, this election represents recognition by member states of Mexico’s experience, technical capacity, and commitment in maritime and port matters. The agency noted that this appointment strengthens the country’s position as a regional leader in the development and management of ports in the Americas.
SEMAR also emphasized that during its term, it will promote a work agenda focused on strengthening regional cooperation, as well as the exchange of best practices among the commission’s member countries. Among the established priorities are the modernization of port infrastructure, the digital transformation of port systems, environmental sustainability, maritime and port security, and the development of human capital in the sector.
The CIP presidency will allow Mexico to contribute to strengthening regional integration and promoting public policies aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the continent’s ports. It also seeks to facilitate international trade and generate greater opportunities for economic development for the countries in the region.
The federal agency emphasized that Mexico’s second election to lead the Executive Committee reflects hemispheric recognition of the country’s leadership in maritime and port affairs, as well as its active participation in regional cooperation efforts to promote the sustainable, safe, efficient, and innovative development of ports in the Americas.
