Mexico doubles the number of Internet users in 10 years

In the past decade, the number of people using the Internet in Mexico has nearly doubled, while over the last eight years, Internet use in rural areas has seen significant growth, according to data from INEGI.
The National Survey on the Availability and Use of Information Technologies in Households shows that last year, 104.9 million people over the age of 6 were Internet users—86% of the population.
The number of users nearly doubled over 10 years; in 2015, there were 61 million users, representing 57% of the population. The 2025 figure showed a 3 percentage point increase compared to 2024.
At a press conference, Susana Perez Cadena, head of the Economic Statistics Unit, noted that last year, 89% of people over the age of 6 living in cities were Internet users, while in rural areas the figure was 75%.
As for devices used to connect to the Internet, smartphones are the primary means, followed by smart TVs, whose adoption grew from 5.4% in 2015 to 50% in 2025. INEGI added that the use of computers to connect to the Internet has declined, while the need for access from public places fell from 50% to 17% over the course of 10 years.
