A step toward decarbonization: Audi Mexico opens a solar farm in Puebla

Audi Mexico launched its new solar farm at the San Jose Chiapa plant: a strategic project that drives the company’s energy transition and reinforces its commitment to decarbonization.
The facility features 8,424 solar panels designed for self-consumption, producing renewable energy directly on-site and covering up to 10 percent of the company’s internal electricity consumption, thereby significantly contributing to the reduction of its carbon footprint.
It promotes the use of clean energy, resource efficiency, and comprehensive water management, which has enabled production without external discharges, reducing water consumption by more than 50% compared to the first year of production. In addition, more than 90% of its waste is recycled, and the company maintains ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications, alongside a reforestation initiative involving more than 40,000 trees in the region, which support its best practices in environmental, energy, and innovation management.
The new photovoltaic park at the Audi plant in the state of Puebla has an installed capacity of 4.2 megawatts, which will generate up to 10% of the plant’s electricity.
Other authorities are also actively participating in this project, including the Ministry of Energy (SENER), the National Energy Commission (CNE), the National Energy Control Center (CENACE), and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
