Online retail giant Amazon is currently looking for land in Queretaro to open its fourth distribution center in the country, according to a report by Reuters citing as source industrial real estate professionals familiar with the matter.
More than expanding its presence in the Mexican market, Amazon seeks with this plan to make Mexico a platform to boost e-commerce in Latin America, the article points out.
For this purpose, Amazon is on a quest for a 50-acre green field to build a warehouse of around 100,000 square meters, plus office space, one of the sources told Reuters.
It’s worth noting that the article cites a report by Euromonitor International which indicates that even though Mexico's e-commerce represented only 3% of total sales last year, it is estimated that the volume will double by 2020, reaching US$ 14 billion.Â
