BMW M2 Racing Track Car to be produced in San Luis Potosí

The Bavarian automaker BMW revealed that its San Luis Potosí plant will be the site where the BMW M2 Racing will be produced starting in August, the new entry option to the BMW M Motorsport range, which stands out for its handcrafted character and limited edition.

The M2 Racing will be the first BMW Group competition vehicle manufactured exclusively at the San Luis Potosi plant and the units that will be produced will be limited edition, and additional bodies will be produced for paint and assembly tests.

All units will have a white base color, allowing for customization by future owners. In addition, its engine delivers 313 horsepower, with a torque of 420 Nm and a curb weight of only 1,498 kilograms.

“Producing the M2 Racing at the San Luis Potosí plant shows the capabilities of our facilities, but above all it highlights the great talent in Mexico: in addition to premium series production, vehicles are also produced with high quality craftsmanship,” said Harald Gottsche, President and CEO of BMW Group Planta San Luis Potosí.

Highly specialized processes have been implemented at the site, from bodywork to final assembly for this vehicle, demonstrating its versatility, innovation and world-class technical capabilities.

BMW M Motorsport will provide private customer teams around the world with a new entry point into racing so that, from 2026, they can compete on a global level.

The new BMW M2 Racing delivers 230 kW / 313 hp on the track and reaches a top speed of more than 270 km/h, but at the same time is an affordable car that offers racing teams and drivers unrivaled performance, durability and pure driving pleasure.

The BMW M2 Racing had its official debut recently during the prestigious DTM race in Oschersleben, Germany. This exclusive model will have a place in the permanent exhibition inside the San Luis Potosi plant, where it can be admired by those who have the opportunity to visit the facility.

“With the addition of the BMW M2 Racing, we are continuing a proud tradition,” said Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “Like its predecessors, the BMW M235i Racing, BMW M240i Racing and BMW M2 CS Racing, the new BMW M2 Racing will redefine the entry-level segment of the range at BMW M Motorpsort,” the executive added.

"The car is affordable, while offering racing teams and drivers uncompromising performance, durability and pure driving pleasure. At BMW M Motorsport, supporting customer racing with cars that are easy to maintain, cost-effective and exciting to drive is a priority," endorsed van Meel.

"With the BMW M2 Racing, we have succeeded in bringing a racing model to the track for customers who are new to auto racing. It combines driving pleasure, performance and particularly intuitive dynamism," explained Björn Lellmann, Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport, for his part.

"The development was carried out in close collaboration between BMW M Motorsport and experts from series production. The result is a powerful racing car that combines fun with low running costs. This efficiency makes the BMW M2 Racing particularly attractive for grassroots motorsport and makes racing even more accessible for customers," he added.
