CAPIM seeks to strengthen the value chain in Nuevo León

NUEVO LEON - In view of the high demand for local suppliers of steel, aluminum and its alloys, the Ministry of Economy of Nuevo Leon and the Chain of Industry Producers in Mexico (CAPIM) will seek to strengthen the value chain.

The Government of Nuevo León informed that the effects of nearshoring, added to the consequences of the new US imposition of tariffs on more than 500 products, have accelerated the search for suppliers in Mexico by large purchasing companies.

According to René Mendoza, president of CAPIM, these tariffs have placed these raw materials as the third component of the search for suppliers in Mexico, behind metalworking processes and indirect materials and services.

“The potential business value of these purchasing needs exceeds US$5.956 billion. Which means a great opportunity for our local companies,” said Iván Rivas, Secretary of Economy of Nuevo León.

Rivas added that one thousand 13 purchase requirements have been registered for steel, aluminum, machining, stamping, die casting, packaging, logistics, aluminum extrusion, plastic injection, forging, as well as MRO resins and services.

“Previously these commodities were not listed as the first 10 items of purchase search by large industries and now, in less than a month, they jumped to the third place of search priority,” said Mendoza, president of CAPIM.

Mendoza explained that Nuevo León is a national leader in the manufacturing sector, which is why an event such as Mexico's Industry Supply Chain, to be held on August 14 and 15 at Cintermex, is so relevant.

The purpose is for national suppliers to have the opportunity to diversify their market, and for large buyers to locate companies that currently offer their products and services to other industrial sectors.
