Chinese firms invest in solar and wind energy in Mexico

MEXICO - Zhang Run, Chinese ambassador in Mexico, assured that a dozen Chinese companies are investing in the generation of renewable energies in different Mexican states.

“Chinese companies in the energy sector have invested in solar and wind energy projects in Mexico and throughout the country there are a dozen (projects) with Chinese investment or participation,” commented the diplomat.

The companies promote the development of renewable energies and support the optimization of Mexico's energy structure, he said during the seminar New quality productive forces, a key factor for the development of China and Mexico, organized by the Xinhua news agency.

He added that in recent years China and Mexico have explored the potential for trade in key areas such as new energy, manufacturing and digital technology.

“Thanks to the development of the new energy industry, China has become one of the countries with the fastest reduction in energy intensity in the world,” he said.

He said China has built the largest and most complete industrial chain in the new energy sector in the world, providing 70 percent of photovoltaic components and 60 percent of wind power equipment globally.

“This has been a very important driver for the global energy transition and development of the low-carbon and sustainable market,” he said.

Zhang Run stated that Chinese electric vehicle brands have introduced high-quality, low-priced products to the Mexican market.

Some Mexican cities have invested in clean buses and transportation systems that offer diversified experiences for consumers, he said.

He exemplified that Mexico City announced the arrival of 10 electric buses for public transportation.
