CloudHQ Expands with Mega Campus in Mexico

In what is set to become one of the largest tech infrastructure investments in Mexico’s history, U.S.-based company CloudHQ has unveiled plans to build a multi-billion-dollar hyperscale data center campus in Querétaro, with a projected investment of US$4.8 billion.
The project includes the construction of six state-of-the-art data center facilities spread across a 55-hectare site. The campus will support large-scale digital operations, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads, and enterprise-level data services — positioning Mexico as a critical hub for digital infrastructure in Latin America.
The new facility will be backed by a power capacity of up to 900 megawatts, supported by a dedicated electrical substation and agreements with national energy authorities. This level of capacity places the project on par with some of the world’s most advanced data campuses, ensuring robust energy delivery, system redundancy, and long-term reliability.
Sustainability is also central to the initiative. The campus will incorporate waterless cooling technology, seek international green building certifications, and follow strict environmental standards — from design to operations — aimed at minimizing its carbon footprint.
The economic impact is expected to be substantial. The construction phase alone will generate over 7,000 jobs, while another 900 permanent positions will be created once the campus is operational. These will include roles in technical operations, energy management, IT infrastructure, and facility maintenance.
Operations are scheduled to begin in Q2 of 2027, with preliminary site work and infrastructure planning already underway. This project reinforces Querétaro’s growing reputation as a leading destination for technology investment, backed by its strategic location, talent pool, and business-friendly environment.
The arrival of a global player like CloudHQ represents more than a landmark investment — it signals Mexico’s potential to become a regional leader in digital transformation and data services. The development is also expected to create new business opportunities for local companies in sectors such as construction, energy, telecommunications, and software engineering.
