COFICAB opens its second plant in Durango

The company strengthened its position as an industrial hub with the inauguration of Coficab II, the second plant of the corporation specializing in electrical cables for the automotive industry, located in the Durango Industrial Logistics Center (CLID). The ceremony was led by Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal, Mayor Toño Ochoa, and the general manager of Coficab in Durango, Mahmoud Ben Nahia.

With this expansion, the company reinforces its presence in the state and increases the CLID's production capacity. According to the Secretary of Economic Development, Fernando Rosas Palafox, Coficab has already invested more than US$170 million in Durango, between the two plants. This new phase alone “exceeds $60 million,” he said.

In terms of employment, the company generates more than 1,400 jobs between both facilities. The new Coficab II plant, which is already in operation, currently provides almost 500 jobs, with a projected total of 2,000 jobs as the expansion progresses.

During the event, Governor Villegas highlighted that the arrival and growth of global companies such as Coficab confirm the state's path of economic development.

“Here, jobs are created that benefit families and consolidate the state's future,” he said.

CEO Mahmoud Ben Nahia noted that Durango has become one of the group's fastest-growing platforms in the Americas.

“We will continue to expand operations; Durango is a strategic location for us,” he said.

For his part, Mayor Toño Ochoa emphasized that Durango offers favorable conditions in terms of security, water, and social environment for attracting investment.

“Durango is a land of opportunity, and here companies find a safe path to growth,” he said, reaffirming the municipality's support for strengthening mobility and services in the CLID.

Finally, the governor announced that industrial expansion will be accompanied by new infrastructure projects, including an IMSS daycare center within the CLID, the expansion of Clinic 44, the management of a new hospital, road improvements, and energy reinforcement.
