European Union explores investment and cooperation in Tamaulipas

The European Union ambassador to Mexico, Francisco André, made a three-day visit to Tamaulipas accompanied by a diplomatic and technical delegation. The main objective is to explore opportunities for cooperation, trade, and investment between the region and European countries.
During the visit, the state's Secretary of Economy, Ninfa Cantú Deándar, mentioned that Tamaulipas is currently home to 89 companies from 10 European countries, with investments exceeding US$12 billion. According to authorities, these figures reflect European entrepreneurs' interest in participating in the local economy.
The ambassador's first tour was to the North Port of Matamoros, considered a strategic project for the economic development of the northern part of the state. The infrastructure is designed to integrate with regional logistics and serve sectors such as energy, advanced manufacturing, and foreign trade. Analysts highlight its potential in the context of nearshoring and the relocation of global value chains.
Later, André met with business leaders from Matamoros to discuss possible areas of collaboration, including clean energy, infrastructure, information technology, education, and productive innovation. The exchange focused on identifying concrete opportunities for joint projects, without announcing specific investment commitments.
The visit's agenda also includes meetings with state authorities, visits to academic centers, and tours of other strategic projects in different regions of Tamaulipas. The ambassador also plans to hold meetings with local economic actors in order to gain a broader view of the sectors with the greatest potential for growth and cooperation.
The visit is seen as an opportunity to strengthen ties between the European Union and Tamaulipas, although experts point out that the real impact will depend on the conclusion of agreements and projects that go beyond formal meetings.
