Jeep Compass leads light truck production volume in Mexico during early 2018

In the first two months of 2018, the all-new Jeep Compass became the Mexico-made light truck with the largest production and export volumes.

In the Toluca assembly plant, located in the central State of Mexico, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) built 46,357 of these units between January and February of this year, of which 40,643 were exported, according to information from the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA).

In a statement, the company stressed that this is due to an adequacy in its global manufacturing plan, in which Mexico supplies this vehicle for the North American and European markets.

Second on the list is the Chevrolet Equinox with 32,349 units manufactured, followed by the Honda HR-V with 30,994. These vehicles have in common that they are built in two different plants in Mexico, the first is produced by GM in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila and San Luis Potosi, while the second is manufactured in Celaya, Guanajuato and El Salto, Jalisco.

The fourth place belongs to another FCA vehicle, the RAM 1500 in Crew Cab version, built by the Italian-American automaker in the manufacturing complex of Saltillo, Coahuila.

The Audi Q5 ranked fifth with 28,711 units. The premium SUV is manufactured at a recently opened plant located in the municipality of San Jose Chiapa, Puebla.
