GE Appliances to invest more than US$3 billion in the United States

GE Appliances, a manufacturer of household appliances owned by China's Haier Smart Home, announced an investment of more than US$3 billion over the next five years to modernize and expand its plants in the United States.
The strategy seeks to strengthen its production capacity in that country and respond to the commercial environment marked by tariff policies.
It is worth mentioning that GE Appliances should not be confused with General Electric, as they are separate and independent companies.
The investment program includes the modernization and automation of GE Appliances' 11 plants in the United States, located in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
With this, the company will expand the production of appliances such as air conditioners, water heaters, and other categories, in addition to generating around 1,000 new jobs.
Kevin Nolan, CEO of GE Appliances, explained that tariff policies have reinforced the convenience of manufacturing within the United States.
“With tariffs, it has become clear that producing in the United States is an advantage at this time,” he told the Wall Street Journal. The trend of relocating operations is not unique to this company. Companies such as Apple and TSMC have also announced heavy investments in US manufacturing, with plans that together exceed US$200 billion.
