German Ambassador Visits Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez to Strengthen Economic Ties

The German Ambassador to Mexico, Clemens Von Goetze, visited the state of Chihuahua as part of a tour aimed at reinforcing economic and trade relations between Germany and the region. During his visit, he met with state and local officials, as well as representatives from the industrial sector.
In the state capital, Von Goetze held a meeting with Governor María Eugenia Campos, who highlighted Chihuahua’s key advantages for attracting foreign investment, including its strategic location on the U.S. border, developed infrastructure, and skilled workforce. According to official figures, Chihuahua exported more than $200 million in goods to Germany in 2024, while imports from Germany exceeded $1.34 billion, placing the state sixth nationally in bilateral trade with that country.
The two also discussed opportunities for cooperation in tourism and culture. In 2024, approximately 9,000 German tourists visited destinations such as the Copper Canyon and the Samalayuca Desert.
As part of his agenda, the ambassador is scheduled to tour local facilities of several German companies with operations in the state, including Bosch, Siemens, and Kurtz Ersa. He was joined by Volker Gutekunst, Economic Counselor at the German Embassy; Federico Eisele, representative of the Mexican-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CAMEX); María Cristina Rodríguez, Honorary Consul of Germany in Chihuahua; and Cristina Móran, the embassy’s Agricultural Advisor.
In Ciudad Juárez, Von Goetze was welcomed by Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, to whom he formally introduced himself in his role as ambassador. Von Goetze emphasized the strong relationship Germany maintains with the city, noting the presence of several German-owned businesses and praising the reliability of the local workforce.
Appointed in September 2024, Von Goetze previously served at German embassies in Tokyo, Beijing, and Tel Aviv. Mayor Pérez Cuéllar expressed the local government’s openness to future collaboration with the German Embassy and invited the ambassador to return for future visits to explore more of the region.
