GM confirms arrival of Corvette ZR1X in Mexico

General Motors Mexico revealed that as part of its 90th anniversary celebrations, it will introduce the Corvette ZR1X, the most advanced version of the two-seater sports car, to the domestic market in 2026.

The company did not disclose the price of the vehicle or the launch date at this time, only stating that the 1,250-horsepower car will be available at the 10 Chevrolet Performance stores in the country.

“General Motors de México's legacy is deeply linked to innovation, and no one but Chevrolet can take one of the world's longest-running vehicles even further,” said Paco Garza, President and CEO of General Motors de México, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Garza highlighted that the ZR1X is the product of more than 72 years of evolution, making its arrival in Mexico an ideal milestone to celebrate “nine decades of both GM and Chevrolet's presence in our country.”

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X features a twin-turbo LT7 V8 engine on the rear axle that delivers 1,064 horsepower and 828 lb-ft of torque.

In addition, its electric motor on the front axle adds 186 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. Each LT7 engine is hand-assembled by experts at the Bowling Green Performance Build Center.

While the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has the rear-wheel drive legacy established by previous generations, the brand's engineers added all-wheel drive for a new interpretation of performance that, according to the company, “makes it a true hypercar.”

The Corvette ZR1X benefits from combining a high-voltage battery pack and an electric motor, which drives the front axle, with a V8 engine that drives the rear axle.

The electric powertrain does not require plugging in, as charging is done through regeneration in the front power unit.

Thanks to its powertrain, it achieves an acceleration estimated by GM of 0 to 60 mph in less than 2 seconds, as well as a quarter mile in less than 9 seconds.

“What better way to celebrate GM Mexico's 90th anniversary than by announcing the arrival in our country of the most powerful sports car developed by General Motors and any other American automaker,” said Jorge Plata, Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing for GM Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

The ZR1X balances its power with robust brakes developed specifically for this model. The J59 brake package is a completely new design, conceived to offer superior thermal resistance and ultra-fast braking response.

Alcon 10-piston calipers on the front axle and 6-piston calipers on the rear axle are combined with 16.5" rotors on both axles, the largest diameter ever offered on a Corvette, to provide the most resistant brake system ever developed within GM.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is available with two chassis configurations, both featuring Magnetic Ride Control, which adjusts the vehicle's behavior based on driving mode, driver input, and road conditions for optimal control.

The standard chassis, paired with Michelin PS4S tires, offers a comfortable ride for long highway trips and a highly capable Corvette on the track.

It includes different driving modes, such as Endurance, Qualifying, Push-to-Pass, PTM Pro (traction and stability control disengagement, regenerative braking vectoring, and programmable launch control).

The ZTK Performance Package represents the ultimate expression of Corvette performance, incorporating higher spring rates and a firmer setup, combined with the grip of Michelin Pilot Cup 2R tires.

The Carbon Aero Package includes side spoilers, underbody deflectors, a gurney flap over the hood heat extractor, and a highly effective rear spoiler. This package can generate up to 1,200 pounds (544 kg) of downforce at top speed.

Like any iconic sports car in the Corvette line, the ZR1X will be available in a coupe body style, featuring an electrochromic roof that allows the tint level of the glass to be adjusted (optional).

It hits the market with a new interior design, featuring a revamped center console and three digital displays: a 12.7-inch screen in the center, a 14-inch screen in the instrument panel, and a 6.6-inch auxiliary touchscreen.

Thanks to the integrated performance app, it provides access to real-time vehicle data, such as power, torque, acceleration, G-force, tire pressure, and temperature, among others.

The infotainment system features Google Built-in, which allows access to apps such as Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, audiobooks, among others, and video streaming on Prime Video and Max apps, thanks to OnStar connectivity.

It also includes Performance Data Recorder functionality, which provides real-time data analysis and HD video recording.

Along with new colors and high-quality materials with leather, aluminum, and carbon fiber options, customers can also choose sports seat configurations with asymmetrical options, such as an Adrenaline Red competition seat or a Jet Black GT2 seat.

In terms of safety, the new 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X features advanced stability and traction control, regenerative braking vectoring, tire pressure and temperature monitoring, a reinforced structure, and track protection systems.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X will be produced at GM's Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
