Hirschvogel to Expand Querétaro Plant

German manufacturer Hirschvogel announced the expansion of its plant in San Juan del Río, Querétaro, as part of a strategy to strengthen its production capacity for aluminum components used in the automotive industry.

The project was unveiled during the International Automotive Industry Supply Summit (IAISS) 2026 and includes the creation of a new aluminum forging division, a technology considered essential for producing lighter and more efficient vehicles aligned with sustainable mobility trends.

Company executives explained that aluminum has become a strategic material for the automotive sector because of its strength, lightweight properties and recyclability. The expansion is expected to reinforce Hirschvogel’s role within North America’s automotive supply chain.

The Querétaro facility currently operates on a 60,000-square-meter site with approximately 20,000 square meters of construction space. Following the expansion, the plant could reach up to 42,000 square meters, nearly doubling its operational capacity.

During 2025, the facility produced around 10 million automotive components. The new investment is expected to significantly increase production while supporting the growing demand for lightweight vehicle parts.

The project will also have a major impact on employment in the region. Hirschvogel plans to add 200 direct jobs, along with about 220 indirect positions tied to suppliers and related services. As a result, the company’s workforce in Querétaro could grow from 500 to 700 employees.

Executives noted that the expansion aims to bring more suppliers closer to the Querétaro operation, improving logistics efficiency and strengthening the region’s integration into global manufacturing chains.

The company also highlighted Querétaro’s growing importance as one of Mexico’s leading automotive and industrial hubs, supported by its infrastructure, skilled workforce and strategic location.
