Arizona-based Molded Devices Inc. (MDI), a custom injection molder with facilities across North America, announced the acquisition of Hamar Enterprises, a manufacturer located in Piedras Negras owned by Grupo Innovador Coahuila (GIC). 

“Hamar/GIC currently serves numerous Fortune 100 customers in that region of Mexico with value-add assembly services. Plans call for Hamar/GIC to expand its capabilities into blow molding and injection molding in the near term,” announced the company in a press release.

The Hamar/GIC operations will continue to be led by Gabriel Bustamante, who holds an engineering degree from Texas A&M University and has overseen the success of Hamar/GIC for more than 20 years, said MDI. 

“MDI’s intent behind the acquisition of Hamar/GIC is to grow our midwest footprint with U.S. original equipment manufacturers wishing to capitalize on the molding and low-cost assembly services the Hamar/GIC plant offers,” commented Brian Anderson, CEO of MDI.

MDI’s services include product design and development, industrial engineering, custom molding and assembly. Additional services include dip molding for markets such as medical, industrial, defense, aerospace and electrical.

GIC serves various industries, primarily the communications industry in copper and fiber optic areas, from cross connect blocks, terminal blocks, protected entrance terminal blocks, as well as aerial copper and fiber optic closures and terminals.

MDI began operations in 1963 in California. In addition to the newly acquired installations in Mexico, MDI has manufacturing facilities in Tempe; Pleasanton and Riverside, Calif.; Miamisburg, Ohio; Oshkosh, Wis.; South Glen Falls, N.Y.; and Sellersville, Pa.
