Honda has replaced in Mexico more than 210,000 Takata airbag inflators in some 143,000 vehicles free of charge since it started a recall two years ago, the company revealed.

The automaker has partnered with auto dealers and insurance companies to reach vehicle owners who no longer take their units to get certified maintenance at the company’s service centers.

“It has been hard work considering how complicated it can be to track down and contact each customer to let them know that they need to take their car to the nearest dealership. However, when it comes to safety no effort should be spared,” said Erich Merckel, Subdirector of Honda de Mexico Aftermarket.
