Enphase Energy, Inc., a global energy technology company that supplies solar microinverters, announced that it has expanded its manufacturing agreement with multi-sector contractor Flex to include the company's facilities in Mexico.

Starting the second quarter of 2019, Flex will begin delivering Enphase products manufactured in Mexico to the U.S. market as part of a mitigation plan for the impending USTR Section 301 tariff in the U.S.

“Flex has been a great manufacturing partner and has helped Enphase add an additional manufacturing line in Mexico,” said in a statement Badri Kothandaraman, CEO at Enphase Energy. “Flex provides a cost-neutral path to scale our current products and bring up new products faster. This increased agility will help Enphase better serve our customers globally by cutting down cycle times, streamlining inventory and mitigating tariffs.”

“Flex supports the most innovative companies in the world - those that push the envelope in technology and align with our ambition to help build a smarter, more sustainable world with connected energy solutions,” said Scott Graybeal, senior vice president of Energy Solutions at Flex.

“Enphase is a leader in this area with a product philosophy founded on semiconductor innovation and dedication to the highest levels of product quality and reliability. Expanding our collaboration to Mexico will support this growing market with a responsive, regional manufacturing approach.”

Flex has nearly a dozen production facilities in Mexico located in Tijuana, San Luis Rio Colorado, Ciudad Juarez, Reynosa, Guadalajara and Aguascalientes. Those plants manufacture a wide range of products for different companies, from Nike shoes to smart TVs, as well as photovoltaic cells and trackers.

The California-based company did not offer any details regarding which facility will build the microinverters for Enphase.

With over 200 patents, Enphase Energy delivers smart, easy-to-use solutions that connect solar generation, storage and management on one intelligent platform. The Company revolutionized solar with its microinverter technology and produces the world's only truly integrated solar plus storage solution. Enphase has shipped over 17 million microinverters, and more than 790,000 Enphase systems have been deployed in over 120 countries.
