Outgoing version of Golf GTI gets special treatment in the form of limited Rabbit Edition

Just a few days after Volkswagen announced it will say goodbye to the Beetle production with a Final Edition, the company revealed that the outgoing version of the Golf hatchback will also get a special treatment in the form of the GTI Rabbit Edition.

With a limited production run, the heritage-inspired Rabbit Edition features 18-inch gloss black aluminum-alloy wheels, a black rear spoiler, LED headlights with the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS).

It’s also equipped with black mirror caps, Rabbit-badged seat tags, red-stitched floor mats, KESSY keyless access with push-button start, Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert. It will be offered in four colors: Cornflower Blue, Urano Grey, Pure White and Deep Black Pearl.

Production work for the Golf GTI shifted from Germany to Puebla, central Mexico, back in 2015, but it’s now slated to return to Wolfsburg next year for the launch of the sporty hatchback’s eighth generation.

It's worth noting the German automaker also made official this week that the Golf and Golf SportWagen front-wheel-drive versions will adopt the 1.4-liter engine from the all-new Jetta for the 2019 model year in an attempt to increase gas mileage.
