Kia plant in Nuevo Leon lowers its reliance on the US market

Although KIA has gradually increased its exports from Mexico to the United States, its dependence on that market has been going down in proportional terms, to the extent that a little more than half of its vehicles are destined for the neighboring country nowadays.
Currently, KIA exports to the U.S. 57% of its production, recently said to El Universal Horacio Chávez, general director of KIA Motors de México, although he did not provide concrete figures.
From January through August, the Korean automaker has sold 15,282 Kia Rio compact cars, a figure that represents a 54.1% increase compared to the same eight-month period from last year. Meanwhile, sales of the Kia Forte were of 68,418 units, down 16%.
In order to lower its dependence on the US market, the plant located in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, relies on Mexico’s several trade agreements, which have been useful to export its cars to more than 60 countries.
