Japan invests in Nuevo Leon to promote technological development

Nuevo Leon is establishing itself as a strategic hub for strengthening the relationship between Japan and Mexico in the areas of innovation, technological development, and the growth of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
During the opening of incMTY 2026, where Japan participated as the guest country, Japan’s ambassador to Mexico, Kozo Honsei, highlighted the festival’s importance as a key environment for the development of new ideas.
“It is a space where innovation and creativity converge, and it has established itself as one of the most representative events of the startup ecosystem in Mexico,” he noted.
Currently, Mexico is home to around 1,600 Japanese companies, making it the country with the largest presence of these companies in Latin America and the second-largest globally. The ambassador noted that the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mexico recognizes Nuevo Leon as a key entity for strengthening this relationship.
In 2022, Japan launched a new phase for startup creation through a national plan that focuses on strengthening talent, building networks, securing funding, diversifying exit strategies, and promoting open innovation.
The ambassador invited attendees to visit Japan to experience firsthand its innovation ecosystem, which includes both domestic and international startups, so as not to fall behind in an increasingly competitive global environment.
