Karpowership boosts electricity supply to Yucatan

Karpowership announced its entry into the Mexican market through a partnership with the Ministry of Energy (SENER), the National Energy Control Center (CENACE), the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), and the government of Quintana Roo, with the aim of strengthening energy security in the Yucatan Peninsula.
The company will deploy a 250 MW Powership, along with a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal vessel, under an LNG-to-Power scheme, to supply electricity to the peninsular grid.
The company reported that the project will operate on natural gas and aims to provide backup capacity during periods of peak electricity demand in the region, as well as to address operational contingencies and scheduled maintenance.
Karpowership noted that the maritime infrastructure will allow for the addition of electricity generation capacity within a matter of months, avoiding the lengthy construction processes associated with onshore plants. It also emphasized that the project will be subject to Mexican environmental regulations and international maritime standards to protect the coastal and marine ecosystems of the Mexican Caribbean.
The company currently operates 45 Powerships with an installed capacity exceeding 8,500 MW and 11 LNG terminal vessels in various countries across the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
