KBI Dongkook expands its plant in Nuevo Leon

NUEVO LEON - South Korean automotive supplier KBI Dongkook Industrial Co., Ltd. (CEO: Kim Yong-hee), part of the auto parts division of KBI Group, announced in an official statement that it has completed work on the expansion of its Mexican plant in the state of Nuevo Leon, enabling the facility to reach a production value of around US$72 million in annual sales.

The expansion of KBI Dongkook Industrial's Mexican plant started operations last June 26 and construction began in June 2023. In it, around US$30 million was invested to complete the 14,720-square-meter expansion, which maximizes production efficiency by automating and modernizing its new production lines with the introduction of injection molding machines and IMG molding machines.

Founded in April 2017 in Pesquería, Nuevo León, on the same site as the KIA assembly plant, the KBI East Industrial Mexico plant manufactures plastic injection products, including crash protectors, headlights and taillights, which are installed in mass-produced automobiles for the North and South American markets.

KBI Dongkook Industrial Co. is expected to play an important role in the production of electric vehicles in Mexico and abroad, as it plans to produce new car parts with KIA's electric PBV platform.

''In order to play a key role in advancing our customers as a leader in electric vehicles, we will focus on stabilizing supply and achieving shared growth through win-win cooperation,'' said Kim Yong-hee, CEO of KBI Dongkook Industrial.
